Plastic Or Paper Coffee Lids?

When you think about it, a simple coffee lid is really nothing more than a simple plastic sheet. But how do you care for it? How do you maintain it? The first step is to take it off the brewing device so that you can wash it properly. We'll take a look at a few different ways to do this.

Many coffee shops use glass lids on their drip coffee makers, since these are easy to clean. Glass makes it easier to see the water level, and it looks neat too! Most coffee lids made of hard plastic are labeled as "translucent plastic" or "clear plastic". If your local coffee shop uses glass, you're good to go. If not, well, you can go out and buy a replacement lid. That said, most lids are manufactured out of other materials too, so double check what your local facility can accept before you purchase.

These lids come in a variety of shapes and sizes. You can get clear plastic ones with colored prints or designs. You may want to consider the kind of design that matches your decor or other accessories at home. For example, some people like the "slant-down" coffee cup lids because it allows you to tilt the lid down so that you can see what's in the cup.

These plastic coffee lids work great and look great too. If you don't want to replace them all that often, they are a cost effective solution. On the other hand, if you do plan on using them quite frequently, you should think about buying stainless steel ones, or at least spending the extra money for the metal ones. Stainless steel is a lot sturdier and longer lasting than the plastic variety.

Lastly, there are some out there that are not paper coffee cup lids and that are made from cloth. You may be wondering what separates these from their plastic counterparts. The cloth material for instance is definitely more attractive and easier to keep clean. On the other hand, they won't last nearly as long. You really do need to think about how often you plan on using your takeaway coffee cup lid.

All in all, plastic is certainly the "normal" material for your coffee cup lid. However, it's important to look at all of your options so that you can make an informed decision about what's best for you. So make sure you do your research before picking up your next plastic lid from your local store.
