Misconceptions of Plastic Cup

Recently, Plastic Cup and food containers are widely used in our daily life. They surely bring a lot of convenience to us. However, though most plastic cups are entirely safe to drink out of, there are a few warnings and considerations to keep in mind when using them. Plastic cups are the cheapest cups you can find, and they are better for the environment than Styrofoam, but plastic still is not the best choice of material when it comes to personal drinking containers.

Available in mass quantities, some plastic cups are thin and cheap. These should not be reused, as that is not their purpose. Other plastic cups are meant to be washed and reused, these are usually much thicker. These reusable plastic cups are usually found in people's homes.

One reason we have such huge landfills is because of plastic. Plastic takes more than 100 years to break down, a brutal blow to our planet's health. By using less disposable plastic cups, we would benefit the Earth's environment by cutting down on the amount of garbage in the world.

There are different grades of plastic. Some are not manufactured for multi-use purposes. For example, if you buy a bottle of water, do not reuse that same bottle too many times. This is a cheaper plastic and is intended for single-use. If you want a cup that you can wash and reuse at home, go with acrylic glasses. They will hold their shape longer through multiple runs in the dishwasher and usually look classier too.

It is a misconception that microwaving plastic causes cancer. Some health-care authorities have already tested all plastic containers that humans use to consume from and ensures no cancer-causing agents are emitted under intense heat. So there is a good chance you can use it in the microwave. If it is labeled "microwave safe," then you are definitely able to put it in the microwave.

If you really do not want to risk your health with plastic cups, switch to glass cups or jars. The only danger of glass is breakage, but as long as you are responsible and careful with your drinks, you will be safe. The best prevention is abstinence. With all sorts of options that are better for you and the environment, try to avoid plastic cups as much as possible. However, if you want convenience, you are then no reason to avoid disposable plastic cups.
